I want to start this first entry by saying that I think blogs
can be a great way to get information. Whether it is with new trends, market
values, education, or sports. It can also be used to help people find a
community where others share their thoughts, viewpoints, and ideas. The 50 Best
Blogs have a variety of blogs for everyone to choose from. Which is where I
got two that I wanted to write about.
One of the blogs I found myself liking was the Seeking Alpha blog. It had a great deal of
information on trending analysis, stocks, discussions on investments, the latest
news on investing, and writing for both the Bull and Bear markets. Which is
quite the variety and is the reason why the blog was created. As it connects a
community of investors and gives them knowledge into the different stock
markets. Which means that it influences the way the blog is made.

However, one of the blogs that I didn’t really enjoy was the
People blog. Most of its information seemed
interesting. If not having some clickbait, almost eager titles. Such as, and let
this be a trigger warning of violence and gore, “Fridge
Full of Horror: Couple Was Dismembered in ‘Icebox Murders,’ and Geophysicist
Son Was Nowhere to Be Found." Which is quite the title. Though something
that a lot of people, journalists, and writers work towards is finding a good
title to not only fit the story, but to catch the readers’ attention.
Although, it comes to a point of whether it crosses a line.
Most of which the majority can agree on. While it can be easy to digest links
and titles without much regard, we have to remember that these are real people.
With very real tragedies and who had families, nonetheless. Though the blog
also included some articles that showed devastating yet important information.
Such as the article, which needs a warning of child loss,
“Her
3-Year-Old Died of Invasive Strep A. Now She’s Educating Other Parents About
Warning Signs (Exclusive)”. Violetta Hyatt, a mother to Maddie who had tragically
died in 2022, gave warnings to other parents about the dangers of invasive
Strep A. Which began as a fever and resulted in a visit from a doctor. With the
first diagnosis being a viral respiratory infection, or a human metapneumovirus
(hMPV). Devastatingly, her illness continued and had quickly gotten worse over
the next few days. Which resulted in her passing away. Hyatt said to the People
blog that, “We didn’t even know Maddie had invasive Strep A until after she
passed away.”
The strength it took to talk about this grief and loss to raise
awareness is something to be admired. It
is one of the articles that impacts on its readers. Not as entertainment, like
some of the articles on the blog, but as something to be taken seriously. As it
gives the target readers, which are parents, relatives, and caretakers,
something to watch out for with their own children. Such advocacy for others is
why blogs and articles can be very important when delivering their information.
There are other articles that gave certain insights and
voices to people who need to be heard. One of which was a story about Aubrey
Smalls, a man who is a filmmaker and a historian. He was born with dwarfism and
has educated millions of people about the condition as well. One story in
particular that he shared titled, “Man
with Dwarfism Speaks Out After Being Picked Up by Strangers While Shopping:
'They Don't See Us as Real People' (Exclusive),” was being picked up by
complete strangers while he was looking at suitcases in a TJ Maxx. Which, while
appalling and horrible in the first place, is also completely dangerous.
"There have been people with dwarfism who have been
paralyzed, seriously injured or even passed away because someone recklessly
picked them up or manhandled them," Smalls said to the People blog. Which is why it is not
only important to call out the absurd behavior, but also something to be
knowledgeable and educated on. Sadly, it isn’t something that is new to
people and Smalls with dwarfism. Which Smalls also explains that “People just feel
like they can touch us, and that goes on such a wide spectrum. I've experienced
it all, unfortunately — from people patting you on the head to being picked up,
or even assaulted and touched inappropriately because they think of you in a
way that I can't quite understand."
So while some blogs and titles can be quite descriptive
and even invasive, there are some that are really important to read about. As blogs have the ability to bring information far and wide. Including seeing all different kinds of insights that needs to be seen and discussed. The
actual People's blog itself though, format wise is something that can be better. As, the
plethora of articles, ads, and links could easily overwhelm the reader. Though
that could be on purpose. We live a lot of our lives in technology, and it is
only expanding further.
